This is a free blog that I run as a past time way to spread information about topics not generally covered. I retain no monetary reward from this website or the content in it.
Why the blog?
I spend a lot of time psycho-educating clients on these topics in my clinical practice- sans all the personal information since counseling involves nothing about my personal life or opinion. I add that here for example, personal experience, flavor, and relatability.
Some ask, why would you put such personal parts of yourself out there? One reason: to normalize everyone’s experiences. I’ve often been there, too.
I also have autism. That means that I have had extreme social anxiety, and lacked the tools to cope for a very long time. Pushing myself to blog and to speak forces me to process these concepts, develop the tools to be more relatable, connect deeper socially, and enhance empathy.
I am no longer afraid to be myself, because of this. I hope the same will happen to you.

Megan MacKay is a therapist, multi-disciplinary author, and public speaker who educates on matters related to relationships, mental health, and recovery.
I work as a psycho-therapist that specializes in trauma and addictions.
With my education and experience, I am able to identify behavioral health pathologies and educate individuals on those difficulties so that they can effectively manage and heal.
I don’t teach people how to cope. I find the roots of their struggles, dig it out, examine and restructure their core, and begin to heal from the inside-out. Otherwise, you’re simply band-aiding a bullet hole.

Behind the alphabet soup:
In 2012, I experienced a crisis and entered recovery from alcohol. From that point of absolute defeat, I found my way both into long-term recovery from alcohol and into the field of clinical mental health counseling. As a natural questioner, I turned this talent from the scientific world towards those I work with to help uncover unconscious processes that hinder growth. I have an interest in a diverse amount of topics, from the hard sciences to history and neuro-psychology. I created this blog to endorse my passion for lifelong learning, teaching, and discovery. I discovered an enthusiasm for working in the mental health field as a trauma therapist who works with people; walking with them as they travel through their difficulties. Not a leader nor follower, I help individuals traverse the difficult terrain of the unfamiliar with education and support.
Like many, I struggled with my own traumas. I have my own journey through addictions and trauma resolution. I often get asked, doesn’t hearing everyone’s worse stories daily bring me down?
Opposite: it’s fulfilling knowing I can help people in their darkest hours begin to find their light.
